On Jan 26 and 27, the northern Mojave was under a cold cutoff low and it snowed- more on desert mtns than on the Sierra - but it hit the Panamints and southern Inyos particularly hard and heavy - down to 4000 on west side, 3000 on east side of Townes Pass. Sun Jan 28 was bright and beautiful!! There are many advantages to living within an hour of the Owens Valley and 2 hrs of Death Valley!!
**However, we've had a week of HOT (for Feb.) weather, so it doesn't look like this anymore. RATS.... nice while it lasted!!
It ain't always hot in Death Valley....(and neighborhood)

this is from the corner of Hwy 395 and 190 in
Olancha,
looking at the southern Inyo Mtns - Cerro Gordo, New York Butte,
etc.

Olancha Peak,12,123ft. from whence commeth " Crystal Geyser alpine spring water beings as the pure snow and rain that falls on Olancha Peak in the towering Sierra. This pristine water is naturally filtered through the mountain's layers. Years later it emerges at our protected 4000 ft. high alpine source" = the wells inside Crystal Geyser Bottling Plant, Olancha, CA, behind the cottonwood trees....

South Pass to Saline Valley from Hwy 190
Think twice before heading for Saline Valley this time of year - sometimes the pass is closed for extended periods of time by snow - no one plows it.... and you're quite on your own if you drive past a sign like this - neither the county, rangers, or AAA are obligated to come get you...

Panamint Valley, north Panamite Lake, Panamint Mtns, Telescope Pk

How about THIS!! (no, that's not the paved road - the asphault is plowed and clear!)
Used to be a DVNM sign here and you could build snow people at its base.. 40 degrees at noon

It's like this all through the volcanics on the west side of Townes Pass!

Looking toward Townes Pass from DV- this is Pinto Peak. Wanna ski, anyone??

The tree is the Tamarisk at the Emigrant Rest Stop; looking south

Lookie what happens when it finally rains in the desert!! Desert Gold north of Cow Creek, Hwy 190, north of Furnace Creek.

Telescope Peak reflected in Badwater's ponds

Snow is not removed from the Emigrant Canyon road. It's clearer now, but watch for BLACK ICE!! until all the now melts.
