About Precision Fuel Testing Systems (formerly High Desert Engineering)

Precision Fuel Testing Systems takes great pride in being the motorsports industry’s ‘go-to source’ for effective and user-friendly racing fuel testing systems.  Precision Fuel Testing Systems is your only source for complete and integrated racing fuel testing systems that include not only every piece of equipment and lab-ware needed to establish an effective racing fuel testing program, but also complete and easy to understand instructions on how to test racing fuel.  No rocket scientists needed when you have a Precision Fuel Testing Systems fuel testing system.  Precision Fuel Testing Systems can provide a wide variety of fuel testing systems for testing racing gasoline, methanol, and nitromethane.

Precision Fuel Testing Systems is also proud to be a dealer for the finest gasoline dielectric tester available today, the FT-K01 Fuel Tester, manufactured by Kavlico.  The FT-K01 is a precision instrument that brings laboratory accuracy to the race track.  The FT-K01 is the worthy successor to the reliable G-01 Fuel Analyzer.  Click here to see the FT-K01 Fuel Tester.

Our clients have also come to rely on Precision Fuel Testing Systems for advice and problem solving on day-to-day racing fuel testing issues, including on-site professional fuel testing services and training.  Precision Fuel Testing Systems takes pride in being able to think 'outside the box' when it comes to questions involving fuel testing.  Our hands-on experience and contacts throughout the motorsports fuel testing and racing gasoline refining community often results in quick solutions to difficult problems.  Precision Fuel Testing Systems is here to help you 24/7.  Click here to see FAQs.

We're also proud to report that Precision Fuel Testing Systems user-friendly fuel certification and fuel testing systems have become the defacto 'standard' of the motorsports industry.  Precision Fuel Testing Systems clientele includes major motorsports sanctioning bodies worldwide, including NASCAR, ASA, ARCA, CART, NHRA, IHRA, SCCA, SportsCar, USAC, World of Outlaws, NMCA, NMRA, IDRA, SKUSA, WKA, as well as racing associations in Canada, England, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.

Heading up Precision Fuel Testing Systems is Charles 'Charlie' Anderson, active in certifying fuel for the NHRA for 30 years, and an internationally recognized expert in the establishment and management of effective racing fuel certification and racing fuel testing programs.

Info You Can Use

  • PFTS is proud to announce the addition of a new dielectric fuel tester, the Digatron DT-47FT, to our product line up.  It is a small, easy to use fuel tester that performs two tests to detect the addition of oxidizers to fuel. In addition the DT-47FTD performs a temperature reading for consistency of dielectric measurements.  Click here to see the DT-47FT Fuel Tester.

  • FT-K01 production terminated by Kavlico:  Because of a corporate acquisition of Kavlico Corp. a decision was made by the new owner to terminate production of the FT-K01 Fuel Tester.  As a result, new units are no longer being manufactured and existing inventory of completed units have been sold.  However, our trade-in / buy-back programs will  from-time-time to offer reconditioned FT-K01s on a limited availability basis.  Our reconditioned units (when available) carry a one (1) year warranty, the same as a new unit.  Click here to see the FT-K01 Fuel Tester.

  • "Old Reliable":  Our original fuel tester, the G-01 Fuel Analyzer, is available once again (in limited quantities)  These G-01s are factory reconditioned and carry a the same warranty as a new fuel tester.  Click here to see the G-01 Fuel Analyzer.

  • Trade in your old G-01 and FT-K01 Fuel Testers.  There's still time to take advantage of our liberal trade-in plan for your old G-01 and FT-K01, working or not.

  • Become an informed consumer.  If you or your racing association is in the market for fuel testing equipment, you need to read our Gasoline and  Methanol FAQs before you buy.  Click here to see FAQs.

  • What's it all about?  If you are a racer and your racing association is implementing a fuel certification program, you can find out what it's all about by reading our Fuel Check FAQs.  Click here to see the Fuel Check FAQs.

  • Need to measure the octane rating of the fuel you are using?  Measurement of the octane rating of a gasoline blend is customarily done in the laboratory using a special variable compression single cylinder engine.  But there is also a hand-held near-IR electronic instrument that will measure the octane of unleaded gasoline with claimed laboratory accuracy.  Be sure to read the Gasoline FAQ on testing for octane rating for more info on the limitations of these devices.  Click here to go to the Zeltex, Inc. website.

  • Need a source for the Germane Engineering spot test chemicals?  You can reach Germane Engineering at 801-802-8888 or email geoff@germane.net

  • Can't find someone who'll sell you cyclohexane?  Purchase it from Amico Scientific, 7231-A Garden Grove Blvd, Garden Grove, CA 92841, Phone 714-894-6633.  You can get Toluene from them, too.

  • Unleaded racing gasolines are being reformulated with Ethanol (replacing MTBE).  This will have a direct effect on many racing association's fuel certification programs as Ethanol in the gasoline will cause a RED (positive) result on the Germane Reagent A Spot Test.  A BLACK (positive) result for various DC masking chemicals is still possible.  In addition, the DC values for these fuels are dramatically higher.  Click here to see the Gasoline DC List.
