Gasoline Dielectric Constants
for commonly used fuels.

The following is a list of various racing gasolines with approximate G-01 Fuel Analyzer/FT-K01 Fuel Tester readings and dye colors based on a limited data base. It is NOT a list of approved fuels for any motorsports sanctioning body. To be included in this list, gasolines have been accurately metered and have been subjected to the Germane Engineering Gasoline Spot Tests. Your measurements may differ from those shown in our list as gasoline refiners may have reformulated their fuels without notifying or submitting a sample to PFTS for inclusion in this list.

This list should be used as a starting point for checking fuel and, as experience is gained, you should update the DC values to reflect your experience. NOTE: unleaded racing fuels are in the process of being reformulated with ethanol as an oxygenate (instead of MTBE). This will have a direct effect on many racing association's fuel certification programs as Ethanol in the gasoline will exhibit a significantly higher (positive) DC value (above +10.0), and cause a RED (positive) result on the Germane Reagent A Spot Test. A BLACK (positive) result for various DC masking chemicals is still possible.

For each type of gasoline, the G-01/FT-K01 reading should check within +/- 0.4 points to allow for aging and batch variation, and should be the distinguishing color as listed, to be considered to be in compliance with your rules. If the sample contains two stroke oil, the G-01/FT-K01 reading will be increased from 0.1 to 2.0 points, depending upon the type and ratio of the two stroke oil. In addition, the color may also be significantly changed. The addition of fuel additives will also change the meter reading from that of untreated fuel of the same brand. We recommend mixing representative sample(s) using gasoline and oil of known purity beforehand and measuring their DC value(s) to establish realistic and enforceable standards.

As a safety matter, please note that gasolines, identified with an asterisk (*), are not compatible with the Germane Reagent D test, as a violent chemical reaction may result.
