PACKROD

1947 Packard Construction

Work has started on the Packard with popping the major portion of the dent out of the roof, and formulating a plan for all the modifications to be done.  We are going in the direction of a luxo-cruiser custom.  Shaved, nosed, decked, air-ride lowered, Mustang II, Ford 9", Edelbrock fuel injected smallblock, Turbo 700R4, Air, Stereo, etc.

DON'T ASK THE MAN WHO OWNS ONE -
ASK THE MAN WHO CUT ONE UP!

The interior after teardown was started.

After the front-end was stripped.  Note the pieces of tape on the floor - these are points dropped off key points on the frame for measurement.  When the new Fatman Fabrications front frame section is mated, these points will be used to ensure proper lineup of the new frame.

9" rear is hung in place by an Air Ride 4 Link.  Driveshaft is an Inland Empire Driveline aluminum unit.  Ride height will be controlled by an AccuAir system.

Transmission is a GM 700R4

Front clip has been welded in and mounts fabricated for the 350 smallblock.  the rack and pinion steering has been connected to the steering column.  The fuel injection and front pulleys have been mounted to check for clearances.  The brakes are being converted to power and have been moved up to the firewall.
Dash Area
The interior shows the tilt column and swinging brake pedal.  The firewall is being cleaned up to make room for the air conditioner, fuel injection computer, digital gauge controller.
AccuAir controller, seat heater controllers, lumbar support pumps and DVD player will be located under the seat.

The car back on the wheels.
Height to the top of the roof at ride height is 5' 2"

Sharon is 5' 4" and is able to look over the car.

Long and LOW!

The engine, brakes, steering, etc. all fit with plenty of room to spare.  New inner fender panels will be included in the rebuild.
Frame
Chassis ready to go to powdercoat.  All mounting tabs have been added, all necessary holes have been drilled.  The front clip that was added now has all necessary gussets and welds.  All mounts for air suspension have been added.

Powdercoated chassis
Chassis after return from Powder coat shop, Power Coatings in Bakersfield. Major suspension components installed, next step is to run air, brake, and gas lines.
Frame
Frame after running necessary lines.  Air system installed.  Chassis ready for body

Vertical
Body up in the air to get some final welding done in preparation to be taken down to Orange County to be stripped by dipping.
All new door latches and strikers have been welded in, new floor section over air suspension in rear, and most of the firewall has been welded up.

Back from stripper
The body just back from the stripper in Santa Ana.  The body looks great, but the trunk floor and a couple pieces in the main floor need to be replaced.

Waterjet Logo
Had the logo reproduced in 1/8" steel by waterjet.  This uses a very high pressure water/abrasive stream to cut out the shapes.  These will be polished and chromed to be used instead of the stock logos
Cowl
This is the cowl after removing the vent and reshaping the hood line.  Hood will maintain an even space from the windshield all the way across.
