Configuring E-mail Using Netscape 4.5



Introduction

Netscape Communicator 4.5 includes a program called Messenger Mailbox which is a email program. This email program can be used to send or receive email from within Netscape. This tutorial was designed to assist the configuration of the Messenger Mailbox.

Step 1: Getting To the Preferences

First things first, you need t o start Netscape. To configure Netscape, you do not need to be on the Internet. After you have configured Netscape, you will need to connect to test the configuration and retrieve any email on the server.
  • Click Edit, and then Preferences.
  • Click o n the plus sign (+) beside Mail and Newsgroups.
  • Click on Mail Servers.
  • Beneath Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server, enter mail.ridgenet.net
  • Beneath Mail Server Username, enter the username you use to logon to the Internet.
  • Then press Add.

    Step 2: Configuring the Server

    This part allows a person to choose what type and where the server is on the Internet. Ridgenet currently supports both IMAP and POP3 types of mail servers.
  • Under General, click beside Server Name and enter mail.ridgenet.net
  • Click beside Ser ver Type and select Pop3 unless you wish to use IMAP as your type of mail server.
  • Beside Username, enter your Username.
  • Then press Apply, and then Ok.
  • Press Ok again and you should be done.
