56k Dial-up Modem Account

RidgeNet dial-up service is designed for residential subscribers or businesses on a budget. Dial-up subscribers share their access with other subscribers at a 10% customer service ratio. That ratio means RidgeNet will have one connection port for every ten customers. With this system RidgeNet can handle up to 10% of the total dial-up subscriber base simulaneously at any one time. Dial-up subscribers will be assigned an IP address dynamically. Dedicated IP addresses are not available for dial-up subscribers. RidgeNet encourages our dial-up subscribers to use their connection as much as they wish, but we request that they follow a few rules of common courtesy:

  • Please stay connected only while "actively" using the internet.
  • When you finished your internet activity, please disconnect immediately.

To protect the dial-up lines from abuse and to ensure equal access for all our subscribers, RidgeNet enforces the following policies:

    35 minute latency timer

Subscriber lines that do not show any internet activity for 35 minutes will be automatically disconnected. WARNING! Reading an "already downloaded" web page or replying to e-mail does not count as internet activity.
Dial-up accounts are for sole use of the registered subscriber
Dial-up accounts are not to be shared. Unsupervised usage of your account by other parties is not allowed. Sharing your username/password with other parties is not allowed. You may install and use your account from more that one computer (work & home for instance), but you are not allowed to connected from both locations simultaneouly
Running Internet Servers is not allowed
Dial-up subscribers are not permitted to run internet servers including but not limited to POP, NNTP, HTTP, FTP, Mud, Moos, IRC, Bots, etc.
    Camping is not allowed
Camping is defined as any customer seeking to stay connected to the internet for extended periods of time while not activity using the internet. Examples of camping might include things like:
      • Staying connected to RidgeNet for 8 or more continuous hours.
      • Installing a "pinger" to defeat the latency timer
